William PRESTON (b.1820 Norwich UK, d.1891 Five Dock NSW). Buried in St John's C of E , Ashfield.
He arrived in the colony in 1842, aged 22, on the Royal George.
William is mentioned in First Centenary Book of 1888, vol.11.
He was a butcher and exported salted beef to England and New Zealand. He was probably the founder of the Bronte Sheep Tongue Factory. He also had an open air butcher's shop in Five Dock.
William and his sons were involved in buinesses (butchers, meat preservers, hotel and real estate) in Annandale, as well as Camperdown, Newtown and Petersham.
Nathan John PRESTON d.10/9/1017 (a son of William) bequeathed his property Brooklyn, 109 Trafalgar Street, Annandale to his daughter Edith Preston (mother of informant), but they later moved to Leichhardt.
The artist, Margaret PRESTON, is an aunt of Edith and gave her some paintings.
